So after a discussion with The Don today at work I realised I should get round to recomending more films to you people. So i’ve been thinking of a film to recomend, but so much has been running through my head should it be a obscure but thoughful film, should it be a underated classic, or should it be just a ultimate fountain of randomness. So that just makes it more difficult, so right now I am literally looking at my DVD collection trying to find a film to talk about.
Ok, I’ve got one and the film I’m gonna recomend to you is “Dogma“. As you may or may not know Kevin Smith (the director/writer of Dogma and many other AWESOME films) is a genius, especially in this masterpiece of cinema. Its just so funny, clever and brings up the kinda story Da Vinci Code brings up way before that was popular. Lets talk cast, its Kevin Smith and Jason Mewes as Silent Bob and Jay (Great characters), Chris Rock, Jason Lee (of My Name Is Earl fame, although he was great before this), Alan Rickman, Ben Affleck and Matt Damon….. Its a great cast of great comedy and polished performers which does actually translate into a very entertaining film.
So watch it and enjoy.

After reading some of Len’s stuff at Infinity Squared, I couldn’t help but wish I was as thought provoking as him, ahwell I’ll instead direct you to a very funny site that condenses movies into a couple of lines or less. The site is Movie-A-Minute
Here’s an example from Blue Streak
“Martin Lawrence tries to be like Eddie Murphy in Beverly Hills Cop and doesn’t come close.”

Isn’t it weird how Directors are now just as big as the stars are? It seems to me like movies are relying less on saying “From the director who brought you” and instead are just saying “Directed By *INSERT-NAME* (Yeah you should know them, they are the greatest thing since chainsaw sliced bread)”. Ok I must admit this isn’t as common as it is in the comedy genre, they do have to rely on telling you past projects, but action, drama and thrillers just seem to tell you the director.
Also another thing is that alot of today’s hip new directors are Ex-Music Video directors so there look is stylish and exciting but some could say that they lack substance, also they are often given huge budgets even if it is their first film. Compare this with 10-15 years ago and the hip new directors were from the indie scene (E.g. Kevin Smith, Tarrantino, Rodregiez, Linklatter, etc) who had done huge things with little budgets that resulted in films with both substance and style.
Ok so I’ve rambled a bit, Its just weird you know?
