The Incredible Hulk

456px-hulk_004.jpgHey there, its been a long long time since I posted here…… I kinda just forgot. Anyways, last night I had the pleasure of seeing The Incredible Hulk and I was really impressed by it. So In order for fill some space, lets have a look at the synopsis!

A cure is in reach for the world’s most primal force of fury: THE INCREDIBLE HULK. We find scientist Bruce Banner, living in shadows, scouring the planet for an antidote. But the warmongers who dream of abusing his powers won’t leave him alone, nor will his need to be with the only woman he has ever loved, Betty Ross. Upon returning to civilization, our brilliant doctor is ruthlessly pursued by The Abomination — a nightmarish beast of pure adrenaline and aggression whose powers match The Hulk’s own. A fight of comic-book proportions ensues as Banner must call upon the hero within to rescue New York City from total destruction. One scientist must make an agonizing final choice — accept a peaceful life as Bruce Banner or the creature he could permanently become: THE INCREDIBLE HULK. Written by Babak A.

So my first fear as I was waiting for the film to start, was a simple one……. Will it suck like the last one? When I think back, its actually amazing how much of a negative feeling Ang Lee’s HULK left with me after all these years and I can pinpoint two reasons why it left this feeling:-

1. HULK was never consistent in size and made the whole thing seem fake (Yes more fake, than a fake film about a fake superhero…… ironic I know.).

2. This is big reason….. the big arch-nemesis of HULK in the film was……..a cloud?!?! Seriously a cloud was the big bad guy (OK it was big storm, but still it was a stupid idea).

So back to the rebooted Hulk movie, first of all the film felt very accessible (Gemma confirms this as she is a newbie to most Comic Book related medias), and explained most of what the original film aimed to achieve, in a five minute long flashback sequence. The film’s use of locations worked very well, especially in the hustle and bustle of Brazil’s slums and the eventual travel to NYC. The CGI is almost seamless, although there were parts that were quite noticeable (I.E. Indiana Jones & The Kingdom of The Crystal Skull), mostly it was beautiful and believable.

From what I recall there were three or four action set-pieces that were very well done and if I were the type of person to sit on the edge of a seat, I probably would have been there right….. on….. the…… EDGE! The only problem with the action scenes was a lack of dialogue, but when you consider the fact that the main protagonist is a giant mass of muscles, with a range of emotions from anger to rage, its not really a unexpected situation.

In conclusion…….. Its not as good as Iron Man, but still go and see it, you should enjoy it.

Gem Says: “It was really good”
